Helping adults across the UK adapt their homes and environment to live safely and independently, Adapt & Bloom offers occupational therapy assessments in the specialist areas of housing adaptations and equipment.
I’m Melanie Thomas, an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with over 15 years’ experience working in Adult Social Care. I specialise in assessments for housing adaptations, helping adults improve their safety, independence, and quality of life at home.
I work with people aged 18 and over whose daily activities are impacted by physical disabilities, neurological conditions, long-term illness, or reduced mobility. Throughout my career, I’ve supported people affected by a wide range of health conditions, including stroke, cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s disease, osteoarthritis, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
I carry out thorough, evidence-based home assessments to identify practical solutions tailored to individual needs. Recommendations may include equipment and minor adaptations such as grab rails, as well as larger adaptations including level access showers, ramps, stairlifts, and major structural changes.
As an independent Occupational Therapist, I’m able to offer a personalised service tailored to individual circumstances, and clear professional guidance throughout the process. My detailed written reports can support:
Based in Bedfordshire, I work with clients in surrounding areas and can travel nationally where required.
A comprehensive assessment of your home environment and functional needs, resulting in a detailed written report recommending the adaptations required to support your safety and independence.
Specialist OT reports to support Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) applications. I work with local authorities and housing teams to ensure your application is clearly evidenced and professionally presented.
Assessment and recommendation of assistive equipment and minor home adaptations — including grab rails, shower chairs, raised toilet seats, ramps, and other practical solutions to support daily living.
From your first message to your written report, I make every step straightforward and transparent.
Send an enquiry by email or via the contact form. I aim to respond within one working day to discuss your needs and confirm I can help.
I visit you at home for a thorough, unhurried assessment. I take the time to fully understand your daily life, your needs, and what matters most to you.
You receive a clear, detailed written report outlining my recommendations — suitable for grant applications, council referrals, or private works.
